Just southeast of Peterborough and on the edge of the Cambridgeshire Fens, Whittlesey has an intriguing maze of historic streets where thatched timbered buildings, fine Georgian houses and two fine churches all give the town its special character. More modern amenities include the wellequipped Manor Leisure Centre, where you can swim and play a wide range of sports. Whittlesey has a range of shops and pubs and a few restaurants, but the city of Peterborough offers a much wider choice.
Queensgate shopping centre has dozens of stores including Marks and Spencer and Waitrose, and the city boasts an enticing selection of restaurants, some with a romantic riverside setting. Visitor attractions also include the magnificent Cathedral and Railworld for train enthusiasts. Peterborough is an important centre for road and rail connections too: Kings Cross in around an hour, and access to the A1(M).
The evocative Fens countryside is all around. The vast waterfilled landscape, with its huge skies and dramatic sunsets, is not only rich agricultural land but a paradise for anyone interested in wildfowl and fishing.
